The first time I heard Up In Flames was like stumbling across an unknown collaboration between Spiritualized, My Bloody Valentine, Stone Roses and Mercury Rev from the early 90s. Amazement was no less then a little research revealed that Manitoba vicki lane is a one-man band.
Canadian Dan Snaith has previously released the album Start laptop Breaking vicki lane My Heart, and the sequel is put together using an old computer plus guitar, glockenspiel, saxophone and keyboards. It is astonishing that Snaith alone sounds like a great man wrong orchestra performs a tribute to the symphony 90s shoegazing, indie pop and psychedelic rock.
Manitoba offers warm and psychedelic rocktronika, which should appeal to both fans of classic pop, 90's noise and melodic electronica à la Fennesz and Four Tet. First and foremost, Up In Flames dreamy pop music of the highest class.
